Dana White isn’t happy over Amanda Nunes' recent talks of retirement.
The UFC Women’s Bantamweight and Featherweight Champion conducted an interview with the Brazilian TV show Esporte Espetacular and expressed possibly walking away from the sport for good. White has been silent on the situation until now, and the UFC President makes it clear that Nunes retiring comes at the worst possible time:
“I will kill her,” White said on The Schmozone Podcast (Transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie). “I literally just told (UFC matchmakers) Sean (Shelby) and Mick (Maynard) in the last meeting let’s get this division built for her. Let’s build this division for her, and let’s start figuring this out. And now she’s talking about retiring? You know what’s awesome about that when you think about it? Her retiring isn’t awesome; that actually drives me nuts.
You know how I always say, ‘If you’re talking about retiring, you probably should.’ Unless if you’re where she’s at. In this time when I got guys crying about money, one of our female fighters, who could go on and keep doing this for a long time, is saying, ‘Maybe I retire now.’ She’s got plenty of money, and she can do it.”
The two-division champion isn’t expected to fight for the rest of 2020 due to Nunes wanting to fix a major injury and the new addition to her family soon. Perhaps Amanda will make her final decision once we get closer to 2021.
