Gilbert Burns vs. Tyron Woodley is officially happening.
Despite the former UFC Welterweight Champion looking to pick fights with Colby Covington and UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya, Woodley will step in the ring against Burns on May 23.
Woodley will be fighting for the first time since his unanimous decision loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 235. The 38-year-old dropped the UFC Welterweight title that night, and Woodley is surely looking to bounce back after he was dominated by Usman at the pay-per-view. Despite suffering a huge setback, Woodley has won four out of his last five fights, beating Darren Till (UFC 228), Demian Maia (UFC 214), Stephen Thompson (UFC 209), and Robbie Lawler (UFC 201). The former UFC Welterweight Champion’s professional record currently stands at 19 wins, 4 losses, and 1 no contest.
On the other hand, Burns has been scoring impressive victories and is currently in the midst of a five-fight winning streak, beating Olivier Aubin-Mercier (UFC 231), Mike Davis (UFC Fight Night 150), Alexey Kunchenko (UFC Fight Night 156), Gunnar Nelson (UFC Fight Night 160), and Demian Maia (UFC Fight Night 170). Burns’ professional record currently stands at 18 wins and 3 losses.
UFC Fight Night: Woodley vs. Burns takes place on Saturday, May 23 from a location to be announced with Tyron Woodley and Gilbert Burns headlining.
