It’s official, former UFC Welterweight and Middleweight Champion Georges St-Pierre will enter the UFC Hall of Fame.
The news was confirmed during the UFC 249 pay-per-view on Saturday, where the 38-year-old will join names such as former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans, former Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey, former UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping, and former Welterweight and Lightweight Champion B.J. Penn in the Modern Wing of the UFC Hall of Fame.
St-Pierre started his professional career in MMA back in 2002 and it didn’t long for the Canada native to make his way into the UFC. St-Pierre successfully won his debut against Karo Parisyan at UFC 46 and fought Matt Hughes for the UFC Welterweight title a short time later, but ultimately came up short in his quest for the championship belt.
However, St-Pierre would rack up wins over names such as Frank Trigg (UFC 54), Sean Sherk (UFC 56), and B.J. Penn (UFC 58) before challenging Hughes for the belt at UFC 65 and won the UFC Welterweight title for the first time in his career. St-Pierre suffered his final loss against Matt Serra at UFC 69; however, it didn’t take long for the fighter to regain the belt at UFC 83.
St-Pierre has defeated top welterweights such as Thiago Alves (UFC 100), Jake Shields (UFC 129), and Nick Diaz (UFC 158) during his tenure with the promotion. St-Pierre returned briefly and won the UFC Middleweight Championship from Michael Bisping at UFC 217 and eventually retired with a record of 26 wins and 2 losses.
