Glover Teixeira continues his climb up the light heavyweight rankings.
This past Saturday, the veteran fought Thiago Santos and the 41-year-old managed to pull out a submission victory over the recent UFC Light Heavyweight title contender. This wasn’t an easy match-up for Glover as Santos had him rocked several times during the fight, but Glover ultimately came back in the third round and applied a rear naked choke that got him the win.
Teixeira is now on a five-fight winning streak and the veteran may actually challenge Jan Blachowicz for the 205-pound title instead of Israel Adesanya. After calling out Dana White for booking the big title fight between the two champions, the UFC President was very complimentary of the veteran and stated that he was considering giving Teixeira a crack at the title instead (Transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting):
“It’s something we need to figure out,” White said during the UFC Vegas 13 post-fight show. “But I heard him and I agree with him and I’m taking him serious. I’m not going to doubt this guy anymore.”
In other news, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski kept his winning streak alive as he beat Tanner Boser via unanimous decision. Raoni Barcelos vs. Khalid Taha earned “Fight of the Night” thanks to their thrilling bantamweight encounter. Giga Chikadze and Alexandr Romanov got “Performance of the Night” bonuses due to their dominate wins.
