It appears that we’ll get Walt Harris vs. Alistair Overeem after all.
Previously, the heavyweight fight was set to take place at UFC Fight Night Portland; however, due to the coronavirus situation, the fight and the entire line-up was cancelled. Dana White has stated that all the scrapped bouts would be rescheduled at some point and according to Harris himself, the two will meet at an undisclosed location on May 16.
MMA Junkie confirmed the news, stating that the fight could take place at Tachi Palace Casino Resort in Lemoore, California.
Overeem is coming off a knockout loss to Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC Fight Night Washington D.C. Originally, the DREAM Heavyweight Champion was set to fight Harris inside the Capital One arena; however, the Alabama native was forced to pull out for personal reasons. Overeem has won two out of his last five fights, besting Alexey Oleinik (UFC Fight Night 149) and Sergei Pavlovich (UFC Fight Night 141). The heavyweight’s professional record currently stands at 45 wins, 18 losses, and 1 no contest.
Walt Harris enters the contest with some nice momentum as the heavyweight is currently on a three-fight winning streak, beating Aleksei Oleinik (UFC on ESPN 4), Sergey Spivak (UFC Fight Night 151), and Daniel Spitz (UFC Fight Night 131). His professional record currently stands at 13 wins, 7 losses, and 1 no contest.
