Several weeks ago, UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman called out Jorge Masvidal for turning down a chance to fight at UFC 249. He called “Gamebred” a “clout chaser” and revealed the real reason that he wanted to take the fight, which was to expose the Florida native for just being hype and wanted the fans to hear him squeal like a pig.
Not surprisingly, Masvidal quickly replied to Usman’s statements and made a video calling out the welterweight champ for his multiple personalities. Now, Masvidal goes into more depth on BT Sport about why the fight between the two welterweights at UFC 249 was never confirmed, and it all came down to money (Transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie):
“There was a deal on the table, but when the full deal and the whole extent of it got brought through and how it was going to play out, the budget really wasn’t there in a way for what we were asking,” Masvidal said. “The price tag that I put out there, they didn’t wanna pay. This other guy, who knows if he was in or not, but my price wasn’t met. And for the risk-to-reward factor, I wanted to get compensated and the compensation wasn’t really there.”
However, Masvidal doesn’t rule out a fight against Usman, stating that the bout could ultimately happen in July:
“We weren’t too far off either, we can make it work in the future for a fact,” Masvidal said. “I think in July, I’ll be beheading this guy for the whole world to see.”
