Back in November, it was first revealed by MMA Fighting that The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil competitor was released from his contract.
Since then, the 37-year-old has remained quiet over the situation; however, Sergio Moraes is finally speaking about his departure from the company, with the welterweight blaming himself for being let go from the promotion (Transcript courtesy of
Bloody Elbow):
“I think I did not apply myself enough and, because of that, I suffered lots of losses. It was entirely my fault, for not preparing mentally, for not training, for not focusing enough. It’s 100% my fault. I’m aware of my potential, I know what I can do. But most of the times, it’s all in your head,”.
While Moraes is done with the UFC, he’s certainly not done with MMA, as the fighter reveals that there are some companies interested in him; however, he never names which one:
“Life goes on as usual. The only thing that has changed is that I left the UFC. My plans for 2020 are the best possible. I’ll go back to jiu-jitsu competitions. Some companies are already interested in me, so we’ll see. Life goes on, right? Now I’m completely focused on jiu-jitsu. In MMA, I’ll be an all about jiu-jitsu version of me,” says Moraes.
There’s no word on what Moraes’ next move will be. The welterweight’s professional record currently stands at 14 wins, 6 losses, and 1 no contest.
