On Saturday, UFC Women’s Bantamweight and Featherweight Champion Amanda Nunes scored a dominate victory over Felicia Spencer; however, UFC 250 may be the last time that we see the two-division champion fight in 2020.
In an interview with MMA Fighting, Nunes reveals why she might be stepping away from the octagon for the remainder of the year, citing a potential leg injury and the coming of her newborn within three months:
“A break for sure,” she said after the pay-per-view. “I have to see what’s going on with my legs. I always get hurt with this leg — I don’t know what’s going on. And my baby is coming in three months, she’s going to be here. I have to organize a lot of things, her room, and I really need a break right now. ... I think maybe off [the rest of the year] for sure.”
Nunes has consistently fought throughout the years since beating Miesha Tate for the Bantamweight title at UFC 200. Thus far, Dana White hasn’t addressed the two-division champion not competing for the rest of the year. Most likely, the UFC President will set up an interim championship for both divisions; however, that’s just speculation on my end.
