Will Amanda Nunes finally retire?
Following her dominant win over Felicia Spencer at UFC 250 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the two-division champion stated that she would be taking a break from fighting for a bit to focus on her personal life; however, Nunes never mentioned the possiblilty of retirement.
However, in her recent interview with the Brazilian TV show Esporte Espetacular, the 32-year-old is indeed considering retirement as Nunes states that she's accomplished everything she wanted to do in the UFC (Transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting):
“Ah, I don’t know, I’ve achieved everything I wanted,” Nunes said. “I’m well, I can go on with my life, maybe a [take] new step, maybe find new talents, help some girls there…maybe be a coach,
“I’m in a moment that I can retire, you know, and I’m in a moment that I can fight. I’m fine. There’s nothing else to be done right now in the division. The Hall of Fame will come, for sure. My life going forward, if I do stop now, the UFC will give me every support I need to continue having my money and work.”
Nunes has teased hanging up the gloves in the past, but the bantamweight and featherweight champion has continued to compete despite her talks of retirement. Nunes has defeated Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, and Cris Cyborg, the three biggest female fighters to step inside the octagon. At the moment, there’s no clear challenger in sight for either the bantamweight or featherweight division, so it's not a surprise that the two-division champion may just end up walking away for good.
