Amanda Nunes made history on Saturday night, becoming the first double-champ in UFC history to successfully defend titles in two divisions while holding both belts. After defeating Germain de Randamie and successfully defending the UFC women's bantamweight belt at UFC 249 last December, Nunes returned to the Octagon at UFC 250 to defend the UFC women's featherweight championship against Felicia Spencer.
She did so with ease. “The Lioness” battered, bruised, and bloodied her challenger, dominating all five rounds of the championship fight. She cruised to a unanimous decision victory (50-44 x 2, 50-45).
Nunes simply overpowered Spencer for much of the fight. She even beat spencer at her own ground game. Towards the end of the first round, The Lioness tossed Spencer to the mat and rained down hard strikes and elbows. Rounds two and and three were more of the same but Nunes seemed to dial up the pressure even more in the fourth. More powerful punches and a rear naked choke almost ended things in the fourth.
With Nunes seemingly having locked up the belt, there was question as to whether Spencer's corner should call it. The FeeNom showed grit though and survived the fifth. It was a courageous effort for Spencer, but Nunes definitely appeared to show mercy on her opponent.
Nunes has now won 11 straight fights and has successfully defended both the featherweight and bantamweight belts. Having cleared out both divisions, it remains to be seen what's next for the double-champ. She is expecting her first child with Nina Ansaroff soon, so perhaps she could take some time off while a worthy contender hopefully rises up.
