After an impressive TKO victory at UFC Fight Night 169 last weekend, Felicia Spencer has earned a shot at the women's featherweight title. According to ESPN, UFC President Dana White has confirmed that Spencer will challenge current champion Amanda Nunes for the featherweight belt at UFC 250 in Brazil. Contracts have not yet been signed, but verbal agreements are reportedly in place for what will serve as the UFC 250 co-main event.
Spencer is
coming off a first round TKO win over Zarah Fairn at UFC Fight Night 169. After starting out a little flat-footed, Spencer settled in, taking the fight to the canvas and unleashing a barrage of strikes and elbows from the mount position until referee Dan Miragliotta called a stoppage. Spencer is 8-1, with her only loss coming against Cris Cyborg.
Amanda Nunes is currently the women's bantamweight and featherweight champion. This will be her first defense of the featherweight belt that she won by knocking out Cris Cyborg at UFC 232 in December 2018. She has defended the bantamweight championship twice since then, beating Holly Holm (TKO) and, most recently, Germain de Randamie (unanimous decision).
This also means is that Megan Anderson, who also made a strong case at UFC Fight Night 169 to challenge Amanda Nunes, will have to wait for her title shot. She'll likely be next in line to face the winner of this match.
UFC 250 is scheduled for May 9, 2020.
