Well, it surely didn’t take long for the UFC to make its return.
Several weeks ago, Dana White was finally forced to shutdown operation of the mixed martial arts promotion due to the higher ups at Disney and ESPN. In the process, the newly anticipated UFC Interim Lightweight title fight between Justin Gatheje and Tony Ferguson was axed, along with several other big bouts.
The UFC President still remained determined to put on shows and is currently in the midst of building a fight island for his roster to train and compete at; however, according to MMA Fighting, the promotion is prepared to start up operation extremely soon as the UFC’s return could be on May 9.
Adding on to the report, Brett Okamoto of ESPN has listed a few potential top fights for the possible line-up, which could see the Interim Lightweight Championship fight between Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje, Amanda Nunes defending the women’s featherweight title against Felicia Spencer (a fight that was originally set for UFC 250), Henry Cejudo vs. Dominick Cruz for the Bantamweight title (another fight originally set for UFC 250), Francis Ngannou vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Donald Cerrone vs. Anthony Pettis.
The potential location is said to be either in Florida, California, or Texas, and of course, the events will be closed off. The news has yet to be made official by the UFC President himself and there’s no word on when the announcement could be made if the rumor is true. As always, we’ll keep you updated on the situation should Dana White make an official announcement.
