Joe Duffy is officially done with Mixed Martial Arts.
The lightweight suffered a first-round loss to Joel Alavrez at UFC Fight Night: Figueiredo vs. Benavidez II and the veteran announced his retirement from the sport on social media:
Duffy has been fighting professionally since 2008 and owns a win over former UFC Lightweight and Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor during their time in Cage Warriors. Duffy didn’t make his way over to the UFC until March 2015 and managed to score a TKO win over Jake Lindsey in his debut. The Ireland native followed that up with a submission win over Ivan Jorge at UFC Fight Night 72.
However, Duffy suffered a devastating loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 195, and while the lightweight rebounded with back-to-back wins over Mitch Clarke (via submission at UFC Fight Night 90) and Reza Madadi (via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 107), the 32-year-old fell back into the loss column with three consecutive losses. Overall, the lightweight leaves the sport with a record of 16 wins and 5 losses.
