UFC welterweight Michel Prazeres has been suspended for two years due to testing positive for exogenous boldenone and its metabolite 5β-androst-1-en-17β-ol-3-one.
The results come from two out-of-competition urine samples back in March 9, 2019. USADA released a statement regarding the fighter’s situation (Transcript courtesy of
MMA Junkie):
“Prazeres, 38, tested positive for exogenous boldenone and its metabolite 5β-androst-1-en-17β-ol-3-one as the result of two out-of-competition urine samples he provided on March 9, 2019. Confirmation of the positive test was achieved through additional analysis using the sensitive isotope ratio mass spectrometry (GC/C/IRMS) method, which reported laboratory results consistent with the exogenous origin of boldenone. Boldenone is a non-Specified Substance in the class of Anabolic Agents and is prohibited at all times under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy and UFC Prohibited List.”
Prazeres will be eligible to compete again starting March 9, 2021. Prior to his loss to Ismail Naurdiev at UFC Prague, the welterweight was on a strong eight fight winning streak by getting victories over Valmir Lázaro, J.C. Cottrell, Gilbert Burns, Josh Burkman, Mads Burnell, Desmond Green, Zak Cummings, and Bartosz Fabiński. His professional record currently stands at 26 wins and 3 losses.
