Hiromu Takahashi Scrapes By Ryu Lee At NEW BEGINNING To Retain The IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title

Hiromu Takahashi is still the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion after narrowly defeating Ryu Lee at New Beginning in Osaka.

A lot of history behind this match, as Lee was the one that (inadvertently) broke Takahashi's next during their last singles encounter - although he was not portrayed as an outright heel who wanted to finish the job here. Both men traded brutal chops for what seemed like half the match, before things picked up and they emptied their high-flying arsenals.

Lee went for the Dragon Driver (the move that resulted in Hiromu's injury) a couple of times but the champ managed to escape, and was ultimately able to hit a couple of consecutive Time Bombs to retain the title.

Has Takahashi finally got Lee out of his system? Nope. After the match both wrestlers agreed to do battle one more time, much to the dismay of the announce team.

At any rate, a first successful title defense for Takahashi, who doesn't seem to have missed a beat.
