The Future Of NXT UK Is Said To Be In Doubt After WWE Was Forced To Cancel All Upcoming Tapings

A few years back, Triple H had big plans to expand the NXT brand to different countries. The idea was that more Performance Centers would be built across the globe, and that would lead to new NXT brands being launched in those countries. The first was the UK, though NXT UK was only launched there (in a rush) in response to ITV's World of Sports promotion which started airing wrestling on Saturday afternoons in the country.

We've also heard about WWE expanding into Japan, but those talks have now died down as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic which is causing chaos across the globe.

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reveals that no one knows the status of NXT UK as of right now. WWE is looking to downsize in order to save money in response to current world events, and there are reportedly questions being asked about the UK brand (which is a money-losing operation as of right now).

All upcoming TV tapings - and NXT UK TakeOver: Dublin - have all been cancelled, and it's hard to imagine NXT UK returning once the world starts finally returning to normal.

"Best of" episodes have been airing on the WWE Network in recent weeks, and with so many cancellations, more tapings aren't expected to take place until the summer...if they can!
