The UFC Uruguay co-main event featured to excellent welterweight strikers in Vicente Luque and Mike Perry, and there was no shortage of excitement (or blood).
The two welterweights wasted little time sizing each other up. Perry, who is considered more of a brawler, landed some heavy shots early in the first round, but Luque responded with some clean shots of his own and opened two cuts on his opponent's face.
The second round featured even more frequent exchanges with just as much power behind the shots. Both fighters ate some good punches, but it was Mike Perry who seemed to be wearing the damage.
Round three turned into a complete bloodbath. A vicious knee by Luque clearly broken Perry's nose and an attempted guillotine sent the blood pouring out. Luque went for a guillotine choke, but was unable to lock it in, likely due to the slipperiness from the pooling blood.
Honestly, the fight could've been scored either way, but it's quite likely the damage done to Mike Perry's face swayed the judges in favor of Vicente Luque (29-28 x 2, 28-29).
Following the win, Luque (17-6-1) respectfully challenged former UFC title challenger Stephen Thompson to a bout later this year.
“I’ve done four fights in less than 12 months now,” Luque said. “I think I’ve proved my point. I’m ready to face anyone in the top 10. I know ‘Wonderboy’ doesn’t have a fight lined up right now. I’m up to it November (or) December, whenever he wants to I’m up to go there and throw down with him.”
