According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Alberto Del Rio has started telling friends that he's going to make his WWE return in the near future. That won't be until his current legal issues are sorted out, but this definitely seems more than a little optimistic on Del Rio's part.
He's currently accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and is said to be waiting on a trial date for that.
Meanwhile, the former WWE Champion is also battling Combate Americas after claiming they breached their contract with him. He was the public face of the company before being dropped by them, but maintains that they owe him $250,000 from his fight with Tito Ortiz. His lawsuit also alleges that he was supposed to be $10,000 per appearance for them.
The lawsuit is filled with accusations (like them having control of his social media accounts), but that trial over the alleged assault is likely to be most problematic for WWE. He is, of course, innocent until proven guilty, but the company is unlikely to want to work with Del Rio until (or if) his name is fully cleared.
This isn't the first time the former WWE Superstar has made some bold claims about his WWE future. However, it's thought he may have made things right with officials after previously slating the company for his last run there that began with him defeating John Cena for the United States Championship and ended with that disappointing League of Nations faction.
Stay tuned for updates.
