There had been rumours for months about Carlito returning to WWE and, for the most part, fans were starting to lose hope. Thankfully, the man who spits in the face of people who aren't cool finally made his long-awaited comeback at WWE Fastlane earlier this month.
He hit the ring to help Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar fend off Bobby Lashley and The Street Profits but if you were left confused when an unfamiliar entrance theme played out, it sounds like the decision to change it was WWE's call.
"They ran it by me. They wanted to change it," Carlito tells The Ringer Wrestling Show. "I wasn't crazy about changing it. I, like everyone else, wanted to keep it. I liked it the way it was, but, you know, they said 'We want to change it,' and I was like, 'Alright, let's see what we can do.'"
"They asked for my input here and there. I'd say, 'We can use a little more base, more drums,' little things like that. Then the lines, I wanted to change. I didn't want the old lines from before."
"I wasn't crazy about it, but I found it was like one of those earworms where I'd be humming it to myself during the day," he adds. "I'd find myself humming it here without even noticing. It grew on me a little bit. People don't like change. I'm not crazy about change, but I think it's something that needs to be done and you know, just do something to put a fresh coat of paint on everything."
Asked whether he always saw himself returning to WWE - we last saw him lend Bad Bunny a helping hand at WWE Backlash in Puerto Rico - the fan-favourite Superstar added, "I never went anywhere else because I always thought that I'd be back. I didn't think it would be 13 years, but I always had the feeling that I would be back in the WWE somehow."
For the time being, it looks like Carlito will be working alongside the LWO, likely as the third man in their feud against Lashley's new stable. What the future holds in store for him beyond that is hard to say, but it's clear fans are excited to see him back in the ring.
Of course, Carlito was always arguably at his best as a heel so potentially taking him down that route...well, we think it would be pretty cool.
