During last night's SmackDown, Royal Rumble winner Charlotte Flair and WWE Women's Champion Tiffany Stratton came face-to-face for a promo that, well, has left everyone talking.
Multiple sources, including @WrestleVotes, have reported that the two women went off-script and said "very little" of what was in the rundown for them. Flair was clearly thrown off her game by the fans in Chicago mercilessly booing her, and it all went downhill from there.
As Stratton delivered some scathing, seemingly scripted words to her WrestleMania opponent, a rattled Flair started making fun of Tiffany's voice, prompting the champion to hit back by comparing The Queen's WrestleMania record with her "0-3" divorce record.
Stratton quickly slid out of the ring after delivering that barb, though Flair quickly responded by claiming Stratton's real-life boyfriend, Ludwig Kaiser, has been sliding into her "DMs"
Flair was heavily criticised for seemingly setting out to bury Stratton on the March 21 episode of SmackDown, and many believe this was Stratton's way of responding. If so, we'd say she won this war of words and made it clear to Charlotte that she won't be walked over.
For what it's worth, WWE has reportedly removed all those personal digs from the promo in videos uploaded to YouTube and social media.
"It’s great that you said teach her a lesson - I did not look at it as a lesson," Flair recently said of that side-by-side clash from last month. "I looked at it as I am Charlotte Flair. Do you want me to be less than? This is what you wanted, right? This is who you want to be like. This is your idol. Okay."
"So 2019, Trish Stratus wanted to come back and I kept thinking to myself, Trish Stratus wants to come back and wrestle me. Oh, I have to be as good as she thinks I am, like I can’t be less than," she continued. "'Charlotte Flair is that good that I have to come back.' She’d been gone for how many years? Yeah, now she makes, you know, a lot more regular appearances, but that’s all that’s going through my head."
"This is a similar situation. I am going to be as good as everyone thinks I am, and now I feel like I’m even that much better because 2024 did kick my ass and it did give me the clarity and it did like the spark like no, my career is on my time and I’m coming for everything. I’ve done my homework. WrestleMania is the easy part for me. WrestleMania is my domain," Flair concluded.
