Following the death of WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan last week, several active and past WWE Superstars have paid tribute to the Hulkster. Many fans, understandably unwilling to forgive the racist comments he made in a leaked sex tape, have found fault with his transgressions being ignored.
Appearing on CBS to promote SmackDown, Green called Hogan an "American icon" and acknowledged his "polarising political views." For some reason, that's led to her becoming a target for many fans who felt she should have brought up his leaked sex tape (seriously).
Addressing the backlash, Green initially took to X to say, "Let me be clear: My stance on racism is unwavering. I do not condone it - period. If my response (or tweet) seemed dismissive of real concerns, I sincerely apologise. That was never my intention. I tried to acknowledge a death respectfully, even when the legacy is complicated."
Despite that, some WWE "fans" continued to vent their frustrations on Green, prompting the former Women's United States Champion to take a break from social media.
"I’ve tried to keep my page positive and comedic, but today, a lot changed...and it hit harder than I expected," Green wrote. "The name calling, the death threats, the faceless accounts. Social media was supposed to be a fun place and it hasn’t been for a while. It’s been overwhelming and I need to step away for a little bit."
How these people think they're any better than Hogan is impossible to say, and no one can blame Green for taking a step back in the face of needless and vile abuse.
On a lighter note, another recent interview saw Green pitch a possible tag team run for her and SummerSlam host/rapper Cardi B.
"I know she’s a fan girl of me. She absolutely loves me, so maybe she should hop on over, and we should tag team," Green teased. "I feel like maybe Chelsea G and Cardi B versus. I mean, really, anyone, but I definitely want to go for the champs, the tag champs."
Hopefully, we'll see Green return to social media soon, as she's a great personality on the platform.
