Chris Jericho Reveals Why He's Chosen To Abandon His Iconic Light-Up Jacket

It's been quite a while since Chris Jericho has donned his expensive light-up jacket and in a new interview, the Indy wrestling star (he's not in WWE right now, after all) reveals why he chose to give it up.

Chris Jericho recently sat down with Wrestling Observer Radio to promote his Rock 'N' Wrestling Rager At Sea Cruise in October, an event we now know will see him battle Kenny Omega. During the chat, he was asked about no longer wearing the jacket which lit up during his entrance (the last time we saw it, Dean Ambrose had destroyed the thing) and explained that it simply no longer felt right.

"Even like when I did the Naito thing with the make-up and stuff. When I worked with Kenny [Omega], he’s such a crazy character, I thought like these shorts with sparkles and rhinestones on them, it doesn’t match this anymore. A light-up jacket, I don’t feel this anymore. And when I went to do the Naito match in Osaka, New Japan wanted me to wear the light-up jacket, and I was like, ‘I can’t. I don’t feel it anymore.’ And [they were] like, ‘we really want you to do it.’ I was like, ‘I’m sorry. It doesn’t feel right.’ And what felt right was having long, black pants and, you know, putting some makeup on and a frickin’ fedora. I don’t know why, it’s just what I felt like at the time."

Y2J has always been someone who tries moving with the times and enjoys constantly evolving his character so it makes sense that he would choose to ditch a gimmick he now believes had had its day.

As a result, the chances of seeing it
return appear to be somewhere between slim and none and given his unexpected appearance at All In, we can probably forget about seeing him show up in a WWE ring any time soon too (it's said that Vince McMahon didn't want anyone involved with the company to be part of the show). Regardless of what happens, he's doing pretty damn good on the Indy scene!
