After nearly a decade, CM Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series this past Saturday to an explosive response. WWE is already touting the reaction to that, revealing it's the "most social moment" in the company's history, garnering more than 71 million views across social media.
Some have questioned WWE's decision to bring Punk back into the fold, but if his brief stint in AEW proved anything, it's that the Best in the World moves the needle and is a massive ratings draw.
Punk closed out last night's RAW and kicked off his promo by saying, "Once upon a time, an 'American Dream' taught me that if you speak from the heart, you cannot go wrong because it is the truth and this is the truth: I'm home."
Thanking the WWE Universe for never forgetting him, Punk referenced his wife (and former WWE Superstar) AJ Lee and even shared a nod to his former manager and longtime friend, Paul Heyman.
"A wiseman told me that for me to get everything I need out of this place, I'd have to leave and come back," he said, later acknowledging that he'd been welcomed back with open arms by "almost everybody" in WWE.
A feud wasn't set up and it's currently unclear where Punk goes from here. However, comments made by World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins earlier in the night suggest the plan is for those two to square off at the Royal Rumble or perhaps even WrestleMania.
Of course, we also can't help but wonder whether Punk will also be reunited with Heyman, especially if Rhodes takes down Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at the Show of Shows.
Punk signed off by saying, "I'm not here to make friends. I'm here to make money," no doubt giving Rollins even more ammunition to use against him!
