All signs point to Karrion Kross and Scarlett no longer being with WWE after their contracts expired earlier this month. Both are now taking independent bookings, with Kross even launching a new line of merchandise.
Despite that, Dave Meltzer has claimed that there might be more to this whole situation than meets the eye.
"The belief in WWE is he’s going to be back, but, you know, we’ll see," he said on a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio. "They are not telling anyone anything, but everyone is pretty sceptical."
He added that ECW Press, the company that's published Kross' new book, has told journalists they "cannot ask any questions regarding his contract situation, WWE situation." Meltzer also pointed out how unlikely it is that Kross would be released when it was just days ago that WWE Hall of Famer was comparing the former NXT Champion to Stone Cold Steve Austin.
For what it's worth, @WrestleVotes has since countered with the following, further muddying the waters when it comes to whether this is a work or not.
Last night's RAW took place in Quebec City, and there was no indication that fans attempted to hijack the show with chants of "We Want Kross" or anything like that. Even so, Meltzer is claiming that signs supporting Kross were confiscated by arena security.
As of now, it appears he's gone from WWE, but WWE Hall of Famer JBL recently shared his take on why there's a lot of upside in being a free agent when he has momentum on his side:
"I’m surprised. I didn’t know how I’d play out. I thought they’d probably resign him. I mean, you got crowds chanting, ‘We want Kross.’ You got merchandise sales that are very good for Karrion. So I don’t know."
"I think Karrion has an opportunity now, and a huge opportunity. There’s never been a better opportunity, Conrad, we mentioned this almost every single week, for people to create names outside of the business. I think that’s what Karrion can and should do. You know, he’s got a very he’s going viral with all this stuff, which is really hard to do, and he’s got the ability to go out there and create a buzz. I think that’s what he needs to do."
"To me, though, use what you’ve done to become viral, to become a star, and that might mean that you’re working week to week without a contract. That’s unnerving for a lot of people. A lot of people don’t want to do that… To me, I take that viral ability that he has, I try to become a star, a bigger star, he’s already a star, bigger star, and then see what happens. I think the money follows."
Stay tuned for updates as we have them.
