WWE Saturday Night's Main Event (airing December 14, 2024) now has a new match added to the lineup, as well as a big change to one of the other previously scheduled bouts.

The new match that has been added to the show is Sami Zayn vs. Drew McIntyre in singles competition.

This was revealed when Zayn was in the ring following a promo he shared with Seth "Freakin'" Rollins, where they spoke about Seth's rivalry with CM Punk and how he "sounded more like Drew McIntyre" last week, and also addressed Zayn being attacked by McIntyre as the main event of last Monday night's episode of Raw.

Zayn challenged The Scottish Warrior to a match, saying that he was going to end things quickly, only for Drew to hit him with a surprise attack again out of nowhere. Zayn then took the fight to Drew in the back until they were separated by officials.

The other adjustment to Saturday Night's Main Event came about from the opening segment of the show, which saw world heavyweight champion Gunther cut a promo on his upcoming opponent, Finn Balor. The Judgment Day accompanied Balor to ringside, where they traded verbal barbs, mostly with Gunther diminishing how Balor was only the best wrestler in the world for one night nearly 10 years ago when he won the Universal Championship, and has never been able to reach that success again, while Gunther has remained the top dog for years and will continue to do so for thousands more days to come.

A brawl ensued that also included Damian Priest, as The Archer of Infamy still has a score to settle with both them, having dropped the World Heavyweight Championship to Gunther at WWE SummerSlam 2024 in part due to interference from Finn Balor, who also interfered to cost him a rematch at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames 2024.

As a result of this confrontation and their histories together, Raw General Manager Adam Pearce informed Finn Balor backstage that Damian Priest has been added to the World Heavyweight Championship fight, which will now be a Triple Threat match. On top of that, Balor and JD McDonagh will have to defend the World Tag Team Championship titles next week on Raw against The War Raiders (Erik and Ivar), and the rest of The Judgment Day are banned from ringside.

This puts the updated card for WWE Saturday Night's Main Event to the following lineup:

  • Drew McIntyre vs. Sami Zayn
  • WWE Women’s United States Championship Tournament Final: TBD (Bayley or Chelsea Green) vs. TBD (Tiffany Stratton or Michin)
  • Women’s World Championship Match: Liv Morgan (c) vs Iyo Sky
  • Triple Threat Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Gunther (c) vs Finn Balor vs Damian Priest
  • WWE Championship Match: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Kevin Owens
