Daniel Bryan Shares His Reaction To Being Told He Had To Become SMACKDOWN LIVE's General Manager
While Daniel Bryan may have reluctantly agreed to retire on RAW, he's revealed in a new interview that he was told to become SmackDown Live's General Manager and shares his thoughts on how that made him feel.
When it became clear that Daniel Bryan could no longer wrestle, he was left with no other choice than to retire (he does, however, seem adamant that he'll return to the squared circle once he's able to leave WWE). With a number of years left on the leader of the Yes Movement's contract, the company decided to do something with him and that meant making Bryan SmackDown Live's GM.
In a new interview, Bryan shared his thoughts on returning to WWE to call the Cruiserweight Classic and reveals his initial reaction to being told he had a new role on the Tuesday night show.
"They asked me to do commentary for a thing that they did called the Cruiserweight Classic, which was on the WWE Network. And they asked me to do that, and I said, 'yeah, that sounds great!' It's only 10 episodes and I only have too go do it a couple of times, and I get to help this young, independent talent because they were all unsigned talent at the time. And I thought it was great, but then, they told me, 'you're coming back as the General Manager.' That wasn't a question. That's not an ask. And I was like, 'argh, I don't know if I want to do this.'"
Bryan does seem to have come around to the role since being hired and he's currently involved in a very interesting storyline with Shane McMahon, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn. Whether or not that will lead to him participating in a match and being allowed to become an active competitor again remains to be seen but if he doesn't perform at WrestleMania, expect him to call it quits come September.
