Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre entered this year's Royal Rumble match at #17 and was ultimately eliminated by his WrestleMania opponent, Damian Priest.
However, the spot didn't go as planned, and it was reported that McIntyre "stormed out" of the PLE after being unhappy with how the whole thing played out. The angry Scotsman reportedly blamed someone for "having to get their moves in," with the prevailing theory being that he was referring to either LA Knight or Logan Paul.
The United States Champion got in the way of McIntyre's elimination, distracting from what was an important step in the build to his clash with Priest at the Show of Shows this coming weekend.
During a recent podcast appearance, McIntyre set the record straight on what really happened when he got backstage.
"Not all the details are accurate, but yeah, I was fuming," he admitted, "and I let everybody know what I thought, and then I left. Because I’ve learned as an adult nothing good happens when you’re highly emotional, so just calm down, get the facts, then deal with it because I don’t want to punch somebody in the head and be unprofessional and then find out facts later I didn’t know about. It was the grown-up thing to do."
"For me, it’s just if I ever feel somebody did something disrespectful, went into business for themselves and the likes. That’s when I get frustrated, and sometimes it’s not what it appears on the surface, and you have to get all the facts together, and you have to just calm down. It’s just fun that every time I have a moment - it doesn’t happen often."
"Priest finally jokes about it on the promo because that’s all he’s got aside,'‘Drew complains all the time. He’s always gonna leave the building,' and I was like, 'Come on, mate, it’s a couple times in a few years,'" McIntyre continued. "Consider I’m Scottish, I got an anger problem, that’s not too bad. Also, if I stayed, I might have punched some people out and been like, oh, actually, it wasn’t their fault. Wakey, wakey."
It's easy enough to see why McIntyre was frustrated, though it hasn't hurt his feud with Priest too much. Many fans remain unhappy about them facing off at WrestleMania (the argument is that McIntyre deserves a bigger match after his phenomenal 2024), but there is a compelling storyline there.
