Brock Lesnar broke The Undertaker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania 30, and it remains one of the Showcase of the Immortals' most controversial moments. However, it could have happened six years earlier courtesy of the Rated R Superstar, Edge.
During a recent SportsNation interview on ESPN+'s SportsNation, the winner of this year's Royal Rumble match revealed that he "adamantly" refused to end the streak at WrestleMania 24. "In the lead-up to it, I was asked, ‘What do you think about ending The Streak’ and I said no," Edge revealed.
"Adamantly no. I don’t think it ever should’ve ended until what we knew was his final WrestleMania, and then even no. I just didn’t think it was right."
"I also didn’t think at that point in my career I needed it," Edge continued. "I think that that should have been saved for someone who you want to strap the rocket to and you know and you trust and is - to me, Roman Reigns was the guy to do it." While Reigns didn't end the Streak, he was supposed to be the one who retired the Deadman at WrestleMania (it didn't last).
It's crazy to think that Edge turned down this historic moment, but it's clear that he did so for the right reason. His career didn't need it, and while Lesnar's arguably didn't either, he did benefit from that in terms of being a heel.
Do you think Edge made the right decision?
