Eric Young isn’t too fond of his time in WWE.
The former TNA World Heavyweight Champion finally made his way over to the big promotion in 2016 and for the most part, Young worked well in NXT as leader of Sanity. The faction felt cool and unique. Sanity really hit their stride in 2018/2019 before they were officially called up to the main roster.
Now Young’s time on the main roster was dreadful. His debut match against Jeff Hardy saw him take a loss, and Eric’s run in WWE didn’t get any better from there. Young was released in April 2020 due to budgetary reasons.
The TNA star did re-sign with WWE back in November 2022, but he never made his re-debut. During that time, Vince McMahon forced his way back into WWE offices and Eric didn’t want to work for him once again. Eric Young requested his release in 2023 and it was granted in April.
The 45-year-old has not been shy about expressing just how frustrating his experience was in WWE and during an appearance on the Developmentally Speaking podcast, Eric revealed that he stopped pitching ideas since they were being given to other acts.
“I had pitched some really cool ideas, they ended up stealing one of them and using them for other people. I’m not going to get into that, that made me stop pitching ideas because if they’re just going to take them and give them to other people, there’s no sense of me wasting my breath.”
Eric Young reveals that he still talks to Triple H. The TNA star always had respect for the COO so it’s no surprise that he keeps in touch with his former boss.
"Still, to this day, I still have a good relationship with Triple H, and we talk, I mean, not often, he's probably the busiest human being on Earth, but we talk when we can. It was something about his mentality, his leadership, and how he spoke about wrestling, and the opportunities that would be given to me. Nothing was handed to me. All of it was earned. It was earned before I got there, and then it had to be earned while I was there."
Young hasn't made his return to the company during the WWE/TNA crossover. At least not yet. At the moment, Eric is focused on his group, The Northern Armory, as he just put Travis Williams and Judas Icarus on the injured list by piledriving them both twice. Who knows, maybe Eric will pop up in NXT with another cult-like faction someday.
