According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, former RAW Tag Team Champions AOP were considered to finally make their return to television during the tag team turmoil #1 contenders match. The report never states why the decision was ultimately canned; however, it could’ve simply been the case that WWE didn’t want the team to lose on their return outing (transcript courtesy of wrestletalk.com):

“My understanding is that the Authors Of Pain were an option for last night and they decided not to use them, but there’s another team for you, the Authors Of Pain. Why are the Authors Of Pain not tag team champions?”

Besides an appearance in the 51-man battle royale at WWE Super ShowDown in June, the duo have not been seen together on WWE TV since December 2018.

The team was originally taken off of television due to Akam undergoing knee surgery back in January. The wrestler was cleared to compete back in late May; however, it just doesn’t appear that WWE has any plans for the duo. There’s no word on when the former RAW Tag Team Champions could make a return.
