Former WWE Champion Shawn Michaels Believes Today's Younger Wrestlers Are Too "Set In Their Sequence"

We've heard from a few ring-veterans recently that have expressed concerns about the attitude of the new generation of WWE Superstars, and now we can add a true legend's take to the list.

Shawn Michaels has been working at the WWE Performance Center over the last few months, helping the up-and-coming talent hone their skills and prepare for a potential career on the main roster. However, the Heartbreak Kid has come against a few speed-bumps.

While speaking to Edge and Christian on their podcast (via the Wrestling Observer), Michaels reveals that, in his experience, a lot of the youngster guys are reluctant to evolve their in-ring personas and to try new things.

“I think my match with (Vader) was the first time I can recall stomping for the superkick. And you’re the champion, so you’re still figuring out new ways to develop and grow and evolve. It’s not a knock, but I don’t know how many people are doing that. People are sort of set in their sequence, their distinguished moveset of whatever, and heck, we were still trying to grow in a main event of a pay-per-view. Do you know what I mean? It was a constant effort for character development, so to speak, as opposed to being set in that and just moving forward. “And again, it’s not to be critical of anybody. It’s just sometimes when I watch, it’s just people are pretty set on who it is they are and I don’t know if that’s the most positive way of going about doing it. You want to continue to grow as a character, to stretch out, to have more range and have more emotion and have more everything because once you do sort of get settled in it, then it becomes repetitive, right?”

This isn't the first time we've heard something like this, but by the same token, it's also been pointed out that a lot of the younger guys could be afraid to try news stuff because of the perception that there's not a lot of room to "take the ball and run with it" before you're an established star - and even then it could be disastrous if the right (well, the wrong) people don't like wheat you're attempting to pull off.

What do you guys make of Michaels' comments? Sound off below.
