WWE viewers first met Lince Dorado in 2016 when he entered NXT's popular Cruiserweight Classic. That tournament brought a lot of high-flying Superstars into WWE and their matches were, for the most part, extraordinary.
Many of the competitors impressed officials enough to be signed to a full-time deal and Dorado was among them. Unfortunately, WWE dropped the ball on most of these cruiserweights and Dorado ended up competing in that ill-fated division on RAW before being moved to the now-cancelled 205 Live.
Eventually, he joined forces with Gran Metalik and Kalisto to form Lucha House Party. While the group was popular with younger fans, they were never treated particularly seriously and got broken up in the WWE Draft in 2020. Dorado's final match came the following September on Main Event in a clash with Cedric Alexander.
Talking on Developmentally Speaking, Dorado revealed there were discussions about the faction winning the Tag Team Championships, only for a conversation with higher-ups to make him realise the luchadors would never be taken seriously in WWE.
"'There could be lucha guys who can talk and entertain. But they wouldn’t make it so easy for the audience to digest, that they’re not accepting a lucha guy to talk and entertain, they just want you to be the 'Lucha Lucha guys.' That’s what I was told."
"I was like, 'Alright, well.' I said, 'If this is what you want, thank you, but this s**t sucks.' Ultimately, that’s what ended up, um, asking for our release, literally that conversation."
While you might think this would lead to the former 24/7 Champion permanently parting ways with WWE, he's returned to the company recently as a guest coach in the WWE Performance Center (something he revealed while discussing his past heat with Cody Silagyi, the father of Izzy Moreno/Izzy the Superfan, in a recent interview with Sunday Night Main Event).
"Again, for me, I wanted to move forward and I always believe that karma is a b*tch, you know? Because now that I'm back into the WWE realm of helping and consulting for them, you gotta go through me now to get to - you know? And if we already have some beef, what makes you think I'm gonna allow your daughter to pursue her dream?"
"Because then that means I have to bring you around all these other people and you're already toxic so, no, you and your daughter aren't gonna be welcomed there and I hope they realise that and start to get their s**t together soon because I could already tell...bad reputation is the career killer. You don't wanna have that at such an early age and it's a shame that it is what it is. It's not my life anymore, I don't really care but, you know."
