Miro is gone, but Rusev is back! Allegedly.
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, the former WWE United States Champion was seen by multiple sources at WWE Headquarters. Word is that the former Miro has put pen to paper and his visit in Stamford was done to set the stage for his return.
The news isn’t particularly surprising as many expected Rusev to return to WWE. However, as of now, it does appear that the 39-year-old will be by himself as Lana (aka CJ Perry) was nowhere to be seen. In 2023, the couple announced that they were splitting up, but the former WWE power couple reconciled and renewed their wedding vows back in March 2025.
Rusev was one of the surprising names released alongside Ricky Starks and Malakai Black. Before his AEW exit, Rusev was in WWE for a decade. He started in developmental in 2010, but got his start on the main roster in 2014. Rusev would go on a memorable United States title run where he tore through the WWE roster for 146 days.
Once he dropped the US championship to John Cena at WrestleMania 31, it was all downhill from there. Though Rusev managed to get over with the fans due to his Rusev Day act with Aiden English, WWE never pushed him beyond the mid-card title scene.
Rusev was released in 2020. That was the same year he made his debut for AEW in a weird tag team with Kip Sabian. Now called Miro, once he dropped Sabian then he was allowed to have a strong run with the TNT Championship. However, once he dropped that belt then his days within the company were numbered. Miro’s final match was at World’s End 2023 where he reunited with CJ Perry after she betrayed Andrade. Reportedly, Miro took a break to rehab an injury, but it eventually turned to Tony Khan not having anything for the former TNT Champion.
There’s been rumors that Miro turned down numerous creative pitches, though none of that has been confirmed to be true. Numerous reports caught wind of Miro asking for his release in September 2024, but it wasn’t granted immediately.
It’s expected for Rusev to return to the main roster, though when and where is not confirmed. Hopefully, WWE brings him in strong and puts him in the world title scene. Rusev should’ve been a world champion a long time ago, and it would be a shame if Triple H didn’t try to push him above the mid card scene.
