Shortly before SmackDown Live went on the air last night, WWE announced that Elias had been pulled from the King of the Ring tournament due to an injury. Now, we've learned that he's suffered a legitimate ankle injury and that his removal wasn't part of a storyline.

There's currently no word on how long he'll be gone but his injury forced WWE to make some huge changes to last night's SmackDown Live, including replacing Elias with Shane McMahon in an angle which culminated with Kevin Owens being fired after Gable managed to pick up the 1-2-3.

The King of the Ring finals were originally set to take place on Sunday during Clash of Champions but they're now being advertised for Monday's RAW. We'll be sure to keep you updated on that and if we hear anything else about plans for Elias.
