As previously noted, Illinois tattoo artist Catherine Alexander filed a lawsuit several months back against WWE and 2K Games over the use of Randy Orton's tattoos in the WWE 2K video game series. Alexander has done Orton’s ink from 2003 to 2008, and she owns the copyrights to the “The Viper’s” designs.
She is suing WWE and 2K of copyright infringement because Orton's tattoos are noticeably depicted in the 2K games without her permission. Alexander reportedly brought up the issue with WWE in 2009, but they tried to lowball her with a measly offer of $450 for the rights to use the designs.
According to PWInsider, WWE and 2K have attempted to make the lawsuit disappear in the United States District Court of Southern District of Illinois on August 7, due to the court not having jurisdiction on them. Alexander has since filed her response saying that they aimed their alleged infringement of her tattoo work directly in the state of Illinois and because WWE previously offered her $450 for the rights.
The report claims that she included six copyright applications related to Orton's tattoos from March 15 of this year. The court decided all discovery for this case needs to be finished by January 7, 2019 and a settlement conference is set for April 16, 2019.
The suit was originally filed back on April 17 and also named Take-Two Interactive Software, Visual Concepts Entertainment, Yuke's Co. and Yuke's LA as defendants.
