Well, this is unexpected! WWE has filed a trademark application for Taboo Tuesday, a sign perhaps that the company is planning on bringing back the short-lived PPV which was later replaced by Cyber Sunday. Running from 2004 - 2006, the event allowed fans to decide on matches and match stipulation by casting their votes online.
The last Taboo Tuesday event featured a rare Champion vs. Champion vs. Champion Triple Threat match between King Booker (World Heavyweight Champion), John Cena (WWE Champion) and Big Show (ECW Champion) and they were often a lot of fun to watch thanks to the sheer level of unpredictability the event often featured.
Here's what the trademark application says in regards to what WWE will be using the name for.
"Entertainment services, namely, a show about professional wrestling; entertainment services, namely, the production and exhibition of professional wrestling events rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment; fan club services, namely, organizing and staging events with wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the field of sports entertainment; online journals, namely, blogs in the fields of sports entertainment."
It's not just a DVD compilation then but the fact Taboo Tuesday takes place on, well, a Tuesday, complicates matters. After all, that's the night SmackDown Live airs so a WWE Network PPV put on in its place simply isn't going to happen. It is, however, possible that WWE will simply rebrand the show as Taboo Tuesday to increase ratings by essentially showing a PPV on USA.
We'll just have to wait and see but chances are fans will be asked to vote on socialmedia given how much things have now changed. What do you think about Taboo Tuesday's possible return?
