17-time WWE Champion John Cena was a guest on The Pat McAfee Show earlier today and broke his silence on the recent changes to his hairline.
Wrestling fans have said for a while that he was noticeably balding (it was hard to miss when seeing him in the ring), leading to a lot of memes and quite a few undeniably cruel comments on social media. However, it was evident at WrestleMania yesterday evening that something has changed.
Michael Cole asked Cena about his improving hair, and the babyface-turned-heel responded, "You have to take the ones from the side and plug them in on top. It just takes a while to come in. It’s coming in. Hopefully, in a couple of months, it looks better. There’s another headline. Hair transplant. There is no shame in that. I have a problem, I try to fix it."
Seemingly in character (though we wouldn't be shocked if there's at least a little truth to what he was feeling), Cena added, "I just saw so many bald spots signs. You get the deal, and your hair falls out because the new ones have to grow, so the old ones fall out. January, February, I had it in November. That’s when I came half a skinhead."
"Thank you for being so aware of my needs and emotions. You guys ripped me to shreds for genetic problem that I can’t control. 1 ‘You don’t look good enough out there.’ You guys aren’t cool to me. I’m in the Rumble trying to win. ‘Man has a bald spot.’ That’s not fair. I can’t control that. It happens to seven out of ten dudes. One of you sons of bitches could’ve pulled me to the side."
"In unison, you chant and make me feel small and embarrass me. Y’all don’t know what that’s like. That is straight-up bullying and not cool," he continued. "Thank you for bullying me into getting surgical hair replacement. That’s how far y’all pushed me."
No one can blame Cena for wanting to deal with the issue, especially as his attention will be solely on Hollywood once he hangs up his wrestling jorts.
During the same interview, Cena dismissed the notion that his retirement tour is a gimmick by reiterating that, when December comes, he's stepping away from the ring and won't ever return for one more match.
"There’s no amount of money, and there’s not a check, and this is just a shot across to any casino owner, any territory owner, to any promotion, you can’t write me a check to bring me back," he confirmed. "In December, I am done because of the promise I made to them, whether I like them or I don’t, at least I go out keeping my word."
