John Cena is viewed as a measuring stick by the vast majority of WWE Superstars and it's easy to see why. While he may not be the world's most talented wrestler, he knows how to deliver a quality match and has risen up the ranks over the past decade or so to become the face of the company. However, even he sees just how amazing new talent coming in through the door is.
During a recent chat with Edge and Christian, the leader of the Cenation went into detail about the current WWE roster and singled out Shinsuke Nakamura as a talent he's in awe of.
"I think with [Shinsuke Nakamura] and no doubt he’s very skilled and extremely interesting but with a character like him you eventually need to explain what the interesting is. And I know he’s diligently working on trying to convey to our audience better. Trying to cut better promos. I love his entrance he like — I say this to all the guys: no one we have for the most part is bad with a skillset of professional wrestling. Everyone now, like the bar has been raised so high that I thank you for the props, but I’m like on the low-end of being mediocre when it comes to all these guys because they’re all so very gifted."
That's a shocking admission from Cena but one it's not actually all that hard to agree with when you look at the likes of Nakamura and wrestlers like AJ Styles, Sami Zayn, and Kevin Owens.
Cena was also quick to praise the female members of the roster and once again touched on what he believes Nakamura needs to do in order to ensure he remains a top star in the company.
"The women as well. It’s amazing what they can do. But literally I think that the absence of that marquee personality is a giant Grand Canyon of a relationship between Superstar and audience and I don’t know a lot of these guys are. And Shinsuke — I think the allure of Nakamura is he was different and interesting but the longer he stays on television the more he’s gonna have to let the audience in on who he is."
