On tonight's episode of WWE NXT, a new No. 1 contender was crowned for the NXT Women's North American Championship.
To backtrack, Fallon Henley lost that title to Stephanie Vaquer this past weekend on the WWE Vengeance Day premium live event. Tonight, there was a Triple Threat match to determine who would get the first shot at Vaquer, featuring three of the women who were arguing last week about who deserved to be the first in line.
As it happened, Karmen Petrovic defeated Kelani Jordan and Jaida Parker. This was in part due to some interference from Petrovic's boyfriend, Ashante "Thee" Adonis, who helped roll Petrovic back into the ring at a moment where Parker had just laid out Jordan and was busy taunting in the opposite direction.
Petrovic effectively stole the pin on Jordan, and Parker didn't notice until it was too late. Parker went after Petrovic out of anger after the bell, only for Jordan to then attack Parker, as they have had issues for the past several months.
The celebration bewteen Petrovic and Adonis was cut short, however, as Fatal Influence charged the ring during the commercial break. Fallon Henley, flanked by Jacy Jayne and Jazmyn Nyx, triple-teamed Petrovic while Adonis tried to get someone to come down to the ring to help.
Thankfully, Petrovic was saved by Vaquer, followed by the NXT women's champion Giulia and the newest signing to the women's division, Jordynne Grace.
This set up a six-woman tag team match for later in the show, wherein Grace scored the victory for her team and posed with Vaquer and Giulia.
Next week, Vaquer and Petrovic will have their match for the NXT Women's North American Championship.
With Roadblock and Stand & Deliver both right around the corner, there's no telling who will be competing for that belt, but there are certainly a lot of options on the table right now in this red hot women's division.
What do you think of all this? Does Petrovic have a shot, or is it a foregone conclusion Vaquer will retain? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
