There are conflicting plans about Karrion Kross' WWE future. His and Scarlett's contracts were reportedly expected to expire this past weekend, with neither offered new deals as of then.
Dave Meltzer later claimed that they had been presented with the opportunity to remain with the company, a report that did make sense as the "We Want Kross" fan movement continues gaining steam both on social media and in arenas.
Kross was a main eventer and world champion in NXT, but had his career completely derailed by Vince McMahon when he arrived on the main roster. Brought back into the fold by Triple H after he was granted his release, Kross has since been tormenting the likes of AJ Styles and Sami Zayn, though he's yet to find himself back at the top of the card.
Doing the rounds to promote his new book, Life Is Fighting, Kross appeared to contradict recent reports about him and Scarlett signing new deals.
"I hope so," Kross said yesterday when he was asked about returning to RAW. "I see things being written online right now, specifically today. Yeah, a lot of what I read is not true. I hate to disappoint people, but I don’t want to bullshit. I hope we do come back."
It would be a huge win for AEW if WWE doesn't sign Kross, as the company could really take advantage of the momentum he and Scarlett have with fans. We'd bet WWE doesn't want that to happen, but Kross may not choose to stay if he isn't going to be better utilised.
During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman shared his take on the groundswell of support for Kross.
"They’ve made it a thing," he said of the fans. "And it’s not just the internet, it’s the internet, it’s the live crowd, it’s the people that buy merchandise. He’s a tremendous performer, and what an act he has with Scarlett."
"Let me ask you this: if he were getting great opportunities, if he were the Intercontinental Champion or the US champion, right now, would he have this level of support from the crowd?" Heyman asked. "No. They love to get behind someone, the underdog, so to speak. So it’s working. It’s working. It’s working, alright? It’s organic."
Heyman went on to make an interesting comparison, likening Kross to WWE icon Stone Cold Steve Austin. "The audience is calling for him to be a bigger star. And if we don’t deliver it on a timetable that an impatient audience is going to like, they’re going to get behind him even more, which is great. They’re making him a star."
"We’re not shoving him and Scarlet down anybody’s throats. The audience itself is making him a star… It reminds me of someone else, by the way, that was in WWE that the audience felt, 'This is our guy. We’re going to demand that you make him a bigger star." That guy’s name was Steve Austin," Heyman concluded.
Stay tuned for updates on Kross and Scarlett's contact status as we have them.
