Mauro Ranallo Explains Why Calling McGregor Vs. Mayweather Will Be His WRESTLEMANIA Moment
His departure from WWE meant Mauro Ranallo missed out on calling a match at WrestleMania but the NXT commentator has revealed why being behind the mic for the McGregor and Mayweather fight makes up for that.
The circumstances behind Mauro Ranallo's departure from WWE remains a mystery beyond some rumoured backstage issues with his former SmackDown Live commentator John Bradshaw Layfield, but he was recently brought back into the fold by Triple H as one of the voices of NXT in Orlando, Florida.
Before that, Ranallo had found work in plenty of other places and one of them is the sure to be historic boxing match between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather on August 26th in Las Vegas. He'll be calling that event alongside Al Bernstein and Paul Maglianaggi, and it's set to be one of the biggest and most memorable sporting events in recent memory.
"This is the money fight. This is a sporting spectacle, nothing more. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing. I equate it to the Battle of the Sexes with Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. It’s Evel Knievel attempting to jump over Snake Canyon."
As for his departure from WWE, Ranallo wasn't willing to say much (especially now he's once again employed by them), but did reveal that whatever happened behind the scenes was bad enough for him to potentially never return to what he views as a dream job.
"I was willing to walk away from my dream job, let’s leave it at that. In order for me to do that, I had to be true to my convictions and what makes you a human being." More from Ranallo can be found in the video below, including why he views calling the boxing match as a true WrestleMania moment, something he missed out on earlier this year. What do you guys think?
