New Details About Drew McIntyre's WWE Status...Including BIG Change They Want To Make To His Character

More details have found their way online about WWE's plans for Drew McIntyre, and it sounds like that may be a point of contention for the Scottish Superstar. We also have an update about his contract status!

The last time we saw Drew McIntyre in a WWE ring was when he failed to defeat Gunther and Sheamus at WrestleMania for the Intercontinental Championship.

The Scottish Superstar has been a tad directionless for a while, especially after a loss to Roman Reigns at Clash at the Castle in Cardiff last September robbed him of the momentum he'd gained as a babyface. Now, with claims his WWE contract is nearly at an end, it was recently reported that his time with the company is winding down.

Well, that's since been countered with a new story from Fightful Select

According to the site, McIntyre has been dealing with some nagging injuries for a while and, in reality, he'll remain under contract with WWE until early 2024. However, he's considering making WrestleMania 40 in 2024 his last and while the former WWE Champion is considering leaving to explore other options, the door would be open to an eventual return.

It sounds like McIntyre has grown frustrated with the lack of communication within WWE lately, with no one telling him in advance that he'd be Drafted to RAW.

There have even been pitches to turn him heel, though it's said McIntyre is likely to push back on the idea as he likes to be hands-on with his creative and doesn't want to make any drastic changes to his character unless it makes sense.

Something tells us WWE will probably find a way to make this right and give McIntyre what he wants, whether it's money or creative plans he can get on board with. Simply put, the former WWE Champion is too big of a star to lose, especially to a rival company such as AEW that's once again started regaining its momentum lately.

Keep checking back here for updates as we have them.

AEW started gaining momentum recently? what about the time that Vince made his public return to the company?

@DevilsDreams - I don't understand your comparison. Vince coming back to WWE is one of the worst things to happen to the company. How does that compare to AEW regaining momentum?

@CorndogThief - When Vince stepped away and HHH was running WWE, the superstars seemed happier, people who had been fired came back.
When Vince then came back (looking like some 90s cartoon villain) it appears that moral backstage dropped with a number of talent not happy.

This in turn also transferred to the shows, where hints of Vince's control came back in match choices, this was typified by the mess that was the Raw after Wrestlemania.

So I'm hazarding a guess that a number of people that went back to WWE during Vince's hiatus may have turned off again returning to AEW as they are less interested in the WWE under Vince.
