Details continue finding their way online after Shane McMahon was "let go" by his father, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, and Fightful has now shared more intel on what happened at the Royal Rumble. It sounds like Shane's dear old dad decided to make a lot of changes to what his son had planned for the Men's Rumble, even scrapping many of them (despite Shane being a producer).
Shane was, in fact, so determined to showcase himself in the bout that he suggested going out at #1. Ultimately, he didn't hit the ring until quite a bit later, though the numbers reportedly got mixed up and he was sent out when it was supposed to be Randy Orton's turn. He wasn't happy, but The Viper hilariously told Shane that he wouldn't be walking out to his "Here Comes The Money" theme.
While we've heard that Bobby Lashley and Austin Theory were considered for Shane's WrestleMania opponents, it sounds like Seth Rollins was who WWE ultimately decided on. As a result, it seems Shane wanted to look as strong as possible heading into the Show of Shows, hence why he tried to make the Rumble all about himself. Now, he's parted ways with the company and is unlikely to return.
It's worth noting that Orton was M.I.A. during RAW despite being booked for a segment, and it's since been said that he may be gone a while. We don't know if this is connected to what happened at the PPV, but he only lasted a few minutes in the match despite it taking place in his hometown (there had also been discussions about him or Riddle winning to set up a WrestleMania match).
As always, keep checking back here for updates.
