One Half Of SMACKDOWN LIVE Tag Team The Vaudevillains Has Been Released By WWE

There's going to be a "Superstar Shakeup" next week, but in the meantime, it appears as if WWE is gearing up for another round of their yearly releases. It's been announced today that the company is parting ways with Simon Gotch, one-half of The Vaudevillains. The statement reads, "WWE has come to terms on a mutually agreed upon release with Simon Gotch as of today, April 5, 2017. WWE wishes Gotch the best in all his future endeavors."

The tag team never took off after moving up to the main roster and a backstage fight with Sin Cara seemingly left Gotch (and, as a result, the team) in the dog house. In NXT, The Vaudevillains were extremely popular, winning the NXT Tag Team Championships in front of a raucous crowd at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn back in 2015.

Gotch's last match took place
before SmackDown Live in a dark segment where he and Aiden English lost to American Alpha. It's unclear what will now become of English, but a singles run is possible should WWE decide they want to invest that sort of time in him. For now, though, The Vaudevillains are done, something which leaves the show's tag team division even more depleted (not that they ever made much of an impact there, however).
