During the main event of Saturday night's SummerSlam PLE, Jey Uso had Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns beat in a Tribal Combat match for the title.
However, before he was able to score the win by pinfall, he was pulled out of the ring by his twin brother, Jimmy, and superkicked. That meant a visibly surprised Reigns was able to steal the win and it's added yet another intriguing wrinkle to this ongoing storyline.
However, there are also those who feel WWE is now dragging the whole thing out a little too much, straining its credibility in the process. After all, why would Jimmy turn on his brother so soon after they both left The Bloodline? (and let's not forget the vicious beatdown he received from Roman and Solo Sikoa).
Talking during the post-SummerSlam press conference, Paul Heyman shrugged off a question about whether the story is still working.
"Bottom of the third," he responded when asked what inning this saga is currently in. "I mean, we're just figuring this stuff out. We haven't even hit our stride yet. If you want to take the arrogant approach, I'm sure Paul Levesque will tell you all the box office records that have been smashed. And every Friday night when we show up at SmackDown, we're always told this is the largest gate of this, and this is the largest gate of that."
"We can sit there and point to what really drove all of this," Heyman continued, "and that's quite clearly The Bloodline. And when I say The Bloodline, I essentially mean the Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns. But we're just figuring this out. There's so much more to learn. There's so much more for us to grasp. There's so much more for us to master. It's a craft, and it's an evolving craft."
The wise man finished by teasing, "Wait till you see what we've got in the fourth."
The logical end to this story would surely be for Cody Rhodes to dethrone Reigns at next year's WrestleMania with the Head of the Table on his own after alienating his entire family (finally making it a fair fight).
However, as Heyman suggests, there's still a long road before we get back to the Show of Shows...
