Saturday Night’s Main Event is this week and man does this show feel thrown together last minute. It doesn’t help that it’s coming a week before the Royal Rumble as only three matches have been confirmed for the show that’s supposed to kick off the road to WrestleMania.
Nevertheless, despite the thrown together card, these do have the potential to be good to really good matches. Let’s immediately dive into the four advertised matches for Saturday Night’s Main Event.
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Gunther (c) vs. Jey Uso
I just don’t see Jey Uso winning the world title right now. Had the build consisted of Jey trying to capture his first world title then I would’ve considered the possibility of Jey winning here. After all, this could’ve been an Edge/John Cena scenario where Jey wins, but drops the belt at the Royal Rumble.
Even though Gunther feels like the fourth most important person on the RAW brand, I genuinely believe the rumblings of him facing Logan Paul at WrestleMania. There’s still the possibility of him facing John Cena as well. No offense to creative, but WWE has never been strong at building babyface vs. babyface matches, so a Cody/Cena match may not be the best idea for the biggest show of the year.
But WWE has been doing some build between Gunther and Logan Paul. I’m not a fan of that match, but it is what it is. Gunther is not dropping the belt. At least not until WrestleMania.
Winner: Gunther
Women’s World Championship Match: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Nia Jax
Filler match. Nothing less, nothing more. Sure, it doesn’t make sense that a Smackdown wrestler is challenging for a RAW belt, but when has WWE really taken the draft rules seriously? I think the most notable thing about this match is that I can see Becky Lynch making her big return after Ripley gets the one, two, three.
I'm not too big on the rumors of Rhea/Becky II at WrestleMania. WWE needs to start incorporating new blood into the women’s title scene. Tiffany Stratton definitely helps on the Smackdown side, but RAW can use a fresh face on top. Let’s hope the women’s rumble winner is a genuine and nice surprise.
Winner: Rhea Ripley
WWE Intercontinental Championship Match: Bron Breakker (c) vs. Sheamus
Can I see Sheamus beating Bron Breakker for the Intercontinental title? Yes. That’s because Sheamus is still on his quest to winning his first IC title. But I don’t believe he’ll finally achieve that dream on a throwaway card such as this.
I can see Sheamus winning at WrestleMania. Though it wouldn’t be an extreme possibility that Sheamus wins on Saturday. The only way that could happen is if WWE has bigger plans for Breakker, such as winning the 2025 Royal Rumble. That would be cool as I think Breakker is ready for a main event spot. But there haven’t been any signs that WWE intends to do something big with Breakker at this year’s Rumble, so I think he’ll defend the IC title at WrestleMania instead.
Winner: Bron Breakker
Braun Strowman vs. Jacob Fatu
Braun Strowman doesn’t need the win. Unless WWE is sizing him up to become the next world champion, Jacob Fatu is the main attraction right now. I don’t see Fatu winning the world title anytime before WrestleMania (or even at it), but I can definitely see him being Mr. Money in the Bank.
Hell, I can see Fatu winning the world title at Summerslam. Even if none of that happens, Fatu has a bright 2025 ahead. He’s easily the best thing to come out of the new Bloodline saga and I wouldn’t be surprised if Fatu vs. Solo Sokia was being penciled down for WrestleMania. Point is, if WWE wants to keep Fatu’s momentum going then he should definitely get the win here.
Winner: Jacob Fatu
