The former Smackdown women’s champion has impressed more wrestling voters as Becky Lynch topped Ronda Rousey for 2018’s “Woman of the Year” for
Pro Wrestling Illustrated.
Lynch’s career continues to be on an upswing and it’s thanks to the ill-advised heel turn on Charlotte Flair at Summerslam in August. ‘The Man’ got to showcase a new bravado that the WWE universe was able to latch onto and became the hottest thing in professional wrestling during her feud with Ronda Rousey.
Lynch received 40 percent of the vote thanks to the readers of PWI, four percent better than Rousey. Asuka and Tessa Blanchard were distant runners-up.
Former WWE champion AJ Styles was named "Wrestler of the Year" for the third straight year. Styles earned 46 percent of the votes in the "Wrestler of the Year" category, besting Kenny Omega by 17 percent, Cody by 8 percent, and Seth Rollins by 7 percent.
He also won the "Most Popular" category for the second straight year. The only other wrestler to receive WOTY honors for three straight years is Ric Flair (1984-1986).
