Back in March, Rob Gronkowski closed the chapter of his storied career in football by announcing his retirement, citing that all the injuries he’s suffered throughout the years took a toll on his mental health.
Since the shocking announcement, speculation has run rampant over the former New England Patriots tight end possibility making the transition to professional wrestling, most notably, the WWE.
Gronkowski previously played an important role at WrestleMania 33, as the 30-year-old helped his friend Mojo Rawley win the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royale by taking down former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal.
Gronkowski has never fully addressed the rumors regarding a professional wrestling career until now during a presentation for his partnership with CBDMedic, where the now retired pro footballer makes it clear that he has no interest in a full-time career in the sport; however, he’s willing to do one crazy match (transcript courtesy of
fightful.com):
"With wrestling, I don't feel like I would be a full-time wrestler, but there is one thing I'm down for. And that's to do one crazy match," said Gronkowski to
CBS Boston.
"Practice it for a little bit, go out there, like in a Royal Rumble, go out there, I got my friend in WWE [Mojo Rawley], practice it and do a full-on WWE match. I'm not saying when. Maybe five years. I got the rest of my life to do that. I've always dreamed about doing that, just one time, going in there and going full out. That may be a possibility, one time, down the road."
It's been noted in the past that WWE has interest in bringing Gronkowski back to the squared circle and now that the athlete has expressed his desire to do one match, it shouldn’t be a surprise if Gronkowski has a match at WrestleMania next year.
