Paige made a huge impact in WWE in the mid-2010s, with an unforgettable main roster debut in 2014 that saw her defeat AJ Lee for the Divas Championship during her first night on RAW.
Paige—whose real name is Saraya Bevis—has battled addiction and neck issues, and while she ultimately managed to overcome those to step back into the ring for AEW, many fans remain eager to see her back in WWE, not as Saraya, but as Paige.
With AEW now in her rearview, it feels like a WWE return is somewhere on the horizon. Talking to the Toronto Sun, she explained that her time away from the ring has once again given her the "bug" to compete in the squared circle.
"I’ve had a wonderful year to kind of dip my toe into the outside of [the] wrestling world, and it’s been so wonderful and I have loved it and I have enjoyed it," Saraya shared. "But I do—once you’re a wrestler, you always miss it. I am starting to get the bug for it again, because I went through a stage where I kind of like fell out of love with it for a second."
"And I’m just like, 'I need to take a break from it.' And that was the whole goal. But I’ve just found this new love for it again, and I found this new passion for it again. And I’m gonna get into training in January and we’ll see where that takes me."
"Because I feel like I do—if I was to ever come back, not saying I am, but if I was to ever come back," she continued, "I want to be at the top of my game and be wrestling better than I was wrestling back when I was in NXT. So that’s my goal."
To help her prepare, Saraya confirms she's spoken with veteran WWE Superstar Natalya about helping her shake off any ring rust. "I’ve actually asked Natty a few times—like, she wants me to go down to the Dungeon and stuff in Florida. So I was like, absolutely. So I miss it. I love it. I think the percentage of me going back is a lot higher now. But we’ll see where it goes. We’ll see where it goes. Who knows what will happen?"
When it was put to Saraya that it seems she's campaigning for a job in WWE, the British pro wrestler made it clear that's not the case. While she remains open to a comeback, the former AEW Women's Champion is just grateful that it's what fans seem to want.
"I will say, anytime I’m in an interview, I get asked that," she explained. "Everyone who comes to my table asks that. But Twitter can be so harsh—if I talk about it, they’re like, 'You’re begging for a job.' I’m like, 'No, people ask me.' I’m just answering the question."
"I’m not randomly going, 'Bring me back.' I’m just getting a lot of love and a good reception. People really want me to come back, and I think that’s incredible. Maybe one day. I don’t know, though," Saraya concluded.
