When Vince McMahon left WWE last year amid a number of sexual misconduct allegations, pro wrestling fans were quick to celebrate the Chairman's departure.
The poor quality of RAW, SmackDown, and "NXT 2.0" was blamed on the 77-year-old and confirmed when his departure saw Triple H take over WWE Creative. Each of those shows quickly improved and things started looking up for the sports entertainment giant.
Then he came back.
Since helping facilitate WWE's sale, Vince has reportedly got slightly more hands-on with Creative and took charge of the RAW after WrestleMania, a show many have hailed as perhaps one of the worst episodes ever.
Yesterday evening's SmackDown was supposed to feature a Triple Threat Match with LA Knight vs. Santos Escobar vs. Butch, Baron Corbin vs. Cameron Grimes, and Bayley vs. Shotzi. The latter would have seen Bayley putting her spot in the Money in the Bank Ladder match at stake, though neither that nor the other matches happened (with zero explanation as to why not) despite being advertised in advance.
Unsurprisingly, we have Vince to blame as he's said to have made a lot of big changes to the show prior to it going on the air. While not a terrible edition of SmackDown, it wasn't great, and it sounds like there's a lot of unhappiness backstage.
With Money in the Bank fast approaching, we can only hope the WWE Chairman isn't planning to get too hands-on with the PLE, especially if it's with last-minute, inexplicable changes like those we saw last night.
